      This cartoon is about the purchase of Alaska and it is proposed in a negative way because it shows that the secretary of state did it for the land not the good of the nation. Other people could say that this wasn't true that he was trying and did help the nation. the author used technique's such as exaggeration and symbolism. Exaggeration because he secretary of state is obviously bigger that he should be. Symbolism because the hunk of ice behind him represents Alaska.

This cartoon is about the open door policy and it is proposed in a fairly negative way because it shows that the open door policy was in a sense a joke to allow America to sneak in and steal Chinas trade. Other people see the open door policy as a positive thing because it fixed the problems with china's trade. The author used methods such as exaggeration and symbolism. Exaggeration because uncle Sam is bigger than everyone else. Symbolism because each person represents a country.

While this author sees this as a negative thing others could see this as a positive thin and say this was for the good of trade around the world. The author uses techniques such as exaggeration and symbolism. Exaggeration because teddy Roosevelt is bigger than everything. Symbolism because the tiny man on the hil represents Columbia pleading for a deal but  Roosevelt ignoring it.

Irony because you would expect Europe to follow the rules and  not need a big gun pointed at them. Some other people could also see this as a positive thing saying the America was putting Europe in its place.

It portraits it in a very negative way because its basically saying we payed millions of dollars for a hunk of ice called Alaska.While the author of this sees the purchase of Alaska very negatively others could see it as a very positive thing. They would say things like we expanded our territory or its rich in natural resources. the cartoonist used techniques such as symbolism and labeling the symbolism is the Russian man who represents Russia and the building which represents America. The labeling is on the building to tell you that its America and on Russian America (Alaska) to tell you that its Alaska.
